We grew up with the olive oil. As a Mediterranean country, our cuisine is based on this valuable elixir. According to thelatest study conducted by the U.S. team of the Rutgers University and the Hunter College of the City University of New York, published in the journal Molecular& Cellular Oncology, olive oil contains an asset likely to kill the cancer cells in less than one hour!
Polyphenol antioxidant, killer of cancer!
It is believed that polyphenol oil, oleocanthal (OC), kills the cancer cells. Certain assumptions have been issued but now we know how this process is triggered and that the cells are killed in less than one hour.
Oleocanthal is a type of natural phenolic compound found in extra virgin olive oil, and it is well preserved if the oil has been obtained by the cold extraction (below 27 ° C). In contact with the OC, cells die by entering into apoptosis, a kind of suicide, from 16 to 24 hours. Oleocanthal gets inside the cancer cells and destroys the lysosomes, causing the death of the mother cell.
For healing, is it enough to drink olive oil?
Not really! You would actually have to drink 2.25 liters of olive oil in order to kill the cancer cells, which is impossible. However, regular consumption of olive oil could help protect from the cancer and to enjoy the benefits.
